Birmingham 2022 celebrations #MadeInSandwell
Birmingham 2022 celebrations! This week #MadeInSandwell Monday is celebrating the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Festival, which will be hosted at Sandwell Valley show ground from 28 July to 8 August.
The free event will include activities, stalls, a fair, plus food and drink, and a live stream onto the big screen of the Commonwealth Games competitions as they happen, from 8am to 10pm every day, complete with all-weather seating.
Several events are programmed. The screening of the opening ceremony on Thursday 28 July, and the closing ceremony on Monday 8 August will both be accompanied by additional music and dance performances. On Saturday 30 July the best performances, art and culture from Sandwell’s Shine a Light Festival will be showcased from 5pm. Wednesday 3 August is ‘Play Day’, with workshops and live theatre for kids of all ages. There will also be a number of free ‘have a go’ sporting activities for adults and children at parks throughout the borough.
Sandwell will also be welcoming the arrival of the Queen’s Baton as it passes through the region on Monday 25 July, on its way to the opening ceremony in Birmingham on Thursday 28 July.
