East End Foods approaches £200m turnover
Turnover at West Bromwich-based food giant East End Foods is inching closer to the £200m milestone.
Latest accounts show that turnover in the financial year to April 2017 reached £185.4m, over £7m higher than in 2016. Pre-tax profits also increased to £8.5m, paying shareholders a dividend of £5m.
East End Foods was founded by the Wouhra family over 40 years ago. Initially a small shop in Wolverhampton, it has grown to become the UK’s largest importer of ethnic foods, with over 1200 product lines such as sauces, pulses, rice and oils. As well as its West Bromwich headquarters, the firm has bases in Smethwick and Birmingham and employs over 350 people. The company is also planning to build Urban Food Farming Technology Centre at their Aston site in order to raise awareness of how food is grown.
The family-run board of directors puts the company’s success down to continuing investment in quality control, environmental issues, IT and credit management. Greater efficiency and the development of new products have been key to recent substantial growth.
