IPU division acquired by Czech company
West Bromwich-based IPU Group has sold its engine control division to ComAp, a Czech company that makes controls for engines and power generators.
IPU, which designs, manufactures and distributes parts and systems for diesel and gas engines, already has a strong working relationship with ComAp, having been a distributor for the company for twenty years. The division will retain its director, Shawn Shepherd, and become a UK subsidiary of the Czech business.
The deal, for an undisclosed fee, will be finalised this autumn and enable ComAp to continue established relationships with IPU’s customers and expand its own direct presence in the UK and Irish markets, in line with ComAp’s global strategy.
IPU currently employs around 80 people, mostly at its UK headquarters on Cygnus Way in West Bromwich, but also in France and Malaysia. It supplies to a wide variety of sectors, including marine, mining and quarrying, oil and gas, industrial engines and land-based industries. The engine control division that ComAp has acquired is one of five in the group, the others being engine starting, emissions solutions, fuel conditioning and single sourcing.
