Signature logoManufacturing group Hill & Smith, whose headquarters are in Solihull, has bought Oldbury-based Signature Ltd for £12.5million.

Signature is a traffic and lighting company which specialises in traffic safety products and illuminated street furniture, including a broad range of bollards, road signs, signals, shelters, lamps, lighting columns and transmission poles. It was founded in 1982, has additional bases in Renfrewshire and Cheshire and an annual turnover of around £15million.

Until this acquisition, Signature has been part of the Plastic Omnium group, a French company specialising in automotive equipment and waste management. Now it will now operate as a subsidiary of Mallatite Ltd, a manufacturing company with facilities in Chesterfield and Wishaw, a nationwide distribution network and which is a member of the Hill & Smith group of companies.

Hill & Smith Holdings PLC is an international group serving customers from bases in the UK, France, the USA, Thailand, Sweden, India and Australia. It supplies and manufactures infrastructure products and galvanizing services to global markets, and recently reported a half-year turnover of £259.3million.

Hill & Smith have a strong position in niche infrastructure markets, particularly in the UK and the USA, and the addition of Signature will add to this portfolio.
