Following the success of last year’s festival, Sandwell Libraries Literature Festival is returning with a mix of author talks, history fayres, live music and theatre.

The festival will run between Saturday 14 March and Saturday 28 March at various venues across the borough. There will be a range of daytime and evening events, including talks, concerts and shows.

One of the guest speakers at the festival is Grace Caroline Holte, author of the Girl from Guildford Street – a story about growing up in Birmingham’s back-to-back houses in the 1950s and 60s. Grace will be giving talks at Wednesbury and Oldbury libraries on Tuesday 17 March.

Other authors among the line-up for the literary festival are Roger Ellory, Mike Gayle and Joanna Toye, who will be discussing their work and writing experiences. Afterwards they will be on hand to answer questions and sign books at libraries across Sandwell.

The festival will open on Saturday at Thimblemill Library in Smethwick with a funny and visually stunning one-man performance entitled Confessions of a Cockney Temple Dancer. The performance includes an enchanting mixture of theatre, dance and film.

The festival will close on Saturday 28 March with actor Neil Gore bringing the 1914 novel The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists to life in a one-man magic lantern show at Central Library West Bromwich.
