Smethwick’s MiGlass makes trophies for Sandwell awards

FIYA Awards trophies on a tableSandwell’s manufacturing heritage is always something to feel proud of – and never more so than when a Sandwell manufacturer supplies Sandwell-made items for a good cause.

Smethwick-based manufacturing company MiGlass played an important role in the Sandwell Children’s Trust Forum for Independent Young Adults (FIYA) Awards recently, by making and supplying trophies by way of sponsorship for the event.

The FIYA trophies from Sandwell-based MiGlass were handed out at a gala evening in October at the WS10 Banqueting and Conferencing Suite in Wednesbury. The awards celebrated inspirational local people in a number of categories, including Sports Hero, Positive Role Model, Community Champion and Life Changer.

MiGlass managing director Alan Taylor is also chair of Sandwell Business Ambassadors. He said: “My team and I were delighted to be able to support such a good cause, and to help celebrate the excellent work the award winners are doing to help young people in the community. It was Nicy Morgan at Think Sandwell who put us and the Sandwell Children’s Trust Forum in touch, so thank you to our local authority for helping the business sector and the community sector to link up.”

MiGlass, which is based on Downing Street in Smethwick, started life as Midland Industrial Glass over 80 years ago. It is now one of the largest independent glass processors and glass manufacturers in Europe, specialising in decorative glass products for all markets.

The MiGlass team designed the trophies, UV-bonding them by hand (a strong process for adhering glass), and personalised them with the Sandwell Children’s Trust logo.

You can read more about MiGlass in our #MadeInSandwell Monday features from 2017 and 2020, when we shared details of MiGlass helping in the battle against Covid-19 by manufacturing protection screens for retail workers.
