Two green events not to miss
Help your Sandwell business do more to protect the environment.
We’ve gathered resources and put them on our Going Greener page to help local businesses play their part in conserving energy, reducing carbon use and carbon dioxide emissions, and helping to prevent human-made climate change.
We add events to the page regularly, and here are two that you don’t want to miss:
- All plastic is not created equal
- Diverting asbestos from landfill: adopting circular economy in construction
Plastic is all around us and businesses need to be able to make informed choices about which plastic is the best material to use and when alternatives are a better option. From single use plastic bans to the introduction of the plastic packaging tax in April, there has never been a more important time to understand the implications of plastic use in your business.
EnTRESS (Environmental Technologies & Resource Efficiency Support Service) is holding an in-person event at the Globe Eco Centre in Uttoxeter on Thursday 23 June, at which experts will give their views on key issues and potential solutions in moving plastic from disposable to sustainable.
The Globe Eco Centre is just a five-minute walk from Uttoxeter train station. The event is free and includes presentations from academic and industry experts, company case studies and networking opportunities.
The EnTRESS project, at the University of Wolverhampton, supports Black Country and Stoke and Staffordshire SMEs with the adoption of environmental technologies and resource efficiency processes for the reuse, recycling and recovery of materials and resources.
EnTRESS is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund. Learn more about it at the University of Wolverhampton website.

Does your business face challenges around asbestos disposal or contaminated land remediation?
If so, the next event could be the one for you. EnTRESS in collaboration with BRIC and the National Brownfield Institute is holding a free event on Wednesday 6 July focusing on asbestos in construction.
The Diverting Asbestos from Landfill: adopting circular economy in construction event is taking place at the National Brownfield Institute, University of Wolverhampton. The event will give you the opportunity to discover how thermal conversion can turn asbestos into sustainable aggregate.
You will also be able to update your knowledge on Asbestos UK regulations, learn more about the circular economy and industrial symbiosis, enjoy a tour of the new facilities and enjoy a networking lunch.
