The closure of the M6 at Junction 10 has been rescheduled again. The full closure will now take place next weekend, between Friday 6 and Monday 9 August.

As we initially reported in June, the closure is due to planned improvements to the junction, replacing two existing bridges with wider, four-lane bridges. The aim is to ease congestion and improve journey times for the thousands of drivers who use the junction every day.

Following the full weekend closure, works will continue on the new bridge for up to five weeks. Junction 10 will be closed between the exit and entry slip roads overnight from 8pm to 6am, Monday to Friday.

During both closures, the diversion route will be the same – all M6 traffic will be diverted up and over the junction.

Highways England has apologised for the disruption the rescheduling may have caused and has put measures in place to avoid it happening again. 

During the closure it anticipates that there will be significant delays at peak times across the weekend and the roads in the surrounding area are also likely to experience long delays.

If you’re making a long-distance journey Highways England advises that you try and avoid this section of the M6 and use alternative routes, such as the M1. There will be signs in place across the network to reduce the number of vehicles travelling through this junction.
