Pivot Power, part of EDF Renewables, has broken ground on a battery storage superhub, which will eventually be connected to the national electricity grid as part of the UK’s drive towards greener energy.

EDF Renewables is one of the UK’s leading renewable energy companies, specialising in wind power, solar and battery storage technology. As we reported in July the Sandwell superhub will be located near the existing electricity substation off Painswick Close in Walsall – close to junction 7 of the M6, where the M5 and A34 meet.

The Sandwell site is one of a planned nationwide network of energy superhubs, which combine large batteries and high-volume power connections to enable rapid electric vehicle charging on a mass scale, from public charging hubs to bus depots and commercial fleets, powered by low carbon energy sources. 

Battery storage is essential to enable greater use of renewable energy and to help the UK meet the government’s target to decarbonise the country’s electricity system by 2035. A map of all Pivot Power’s proposed superhubs is available on its website.
