Sandwell community arts organisation Multistory is offering the opportunity for emerging artists based in the borough to apply for a bursary towards their artistic development. 

There are five bursaries of £500 each available. Artists are invited to apply to support the creation of a small piece of work or to research and develop an existing project. 

Based in West Bromwich, Multistory works with a wide range of communities and partners to reimagine the local area and inspire creativity and social change. Its arts projects, workshops, talks and events take place in libraries, community centres and outdoor public spaces across Sandwell and the Black Country. 

Multistory supports creatives through collaborative projects, employment, bursaries and skills development opportunities. The stories told through its projects have a local resonance but are also seen by audiences far beyond, both in national exhibitions and through its digital programme. 

Successful applicants for the £500 bursary will receive mentoring from Multistory and a week-long residency at the Wolverhampton School of Art studios to produce their work, as well as the funding.

Artists will also have the opportunity to give a talk to students and the Blast Creative Network at the end of the bursary period and to use the Multistory website to share work in progress or for creative interventions.

The online session will provide an opportunity to chat to the Multistory team and get answers to any questions you may have. To register for a session email jesspiette@multistory.org.uk telling her what session you would like to attend and to provide your questions in advance. You can also ask questions during the session. 

To apply for a bursary email your proposal to jesspiette@multistory.org.uk with ‘Bursary Application’ in the subject line.

In your proposal (maximum 300 words or a sound recording or video up to three minutes long) you must outline your ideas for the proposed activity, including what you plan to do and how the bursary would benefit your practice and your work at this time, as well as the proposed timescale.  

The deadline for applications is 10am on Friday 13 May and you will be informed by Friday 20 May if you have been successful.
