M6 closure – severe delays expected

Diagram of M6 Junction 10 closure with a Highways England logo in the cornerNational Highways will be closing the M6 motorway in both directions from 8pm on Friday 6 May to 6am on Monday 9 May.

The planned closure is due to the demolition of the old south bridge, and includes the M6 junction 9 northbound entry slip road, to reduce congestion on the approach to junction 10.

This will cause severe days and heavier traffic on surrounding roads, and National Highways is advising drivers to avoid the M6 if possible, either by taking a different route or by using public transport.

If driving is unavoidable, please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey. It’s also a good idea to make sure any customers and suppliers who may be affected know about the potential disruption to routes and traffic.
