We always love to see social value in action, having a direct positive impact on communities across Sandwell. It’s great to see construction company Seddon supporting Rowley Hall primary school children with a donation of gardening equipment.  

Seddon Construction is celebrating 125 years in business this year and as part of its celebrations two representatives of the company paid a visit to Sandwell school Rowley Hall to donate 125 pieces of gardening equipment, including trowels, forks, gloves, aprons and kneeling pads. The company also gave the children 125 plant pots to decorate and seeds to plant in them.

Seddon provides end-to-end integrated property services for customers across the Midlands, from planning and procurement, through to construction, fit-out and property services, it works with clients across multiple sectors including housing, care, education and retail. 

Established in 1897, Seddon started out as a small family business and has grown to become one of the UK’s largest privately owned and family managed contracting businesses, employing over 650 people.

It prides itself on maintaining its ethos that building relationships is as important as building buildings. One way to build relationships is to go out into the community and help on projects such as the Rowley Hall school project to develop its gardens and wildlife area.

As well as supporting a local school Seddon is working with Think Sandwell to identify jobs and training opportunities. It has recently created a permanent job role for a local resident and helped a further three people into jobs as well as providing two kickstart opportunities and taking on two apprentices.  

As a thank you to Seddon for the gardening equipment the children at Rowley Hall decorated the donated pots and created a 125th anniversary display.

The school councillors said: “We have been celebrating with company Seddon Construction, who have had their 125th Birthday! They have been so kind and donated 125 pieces of gardening equipment, including trowels, forks, gloves, seeds, pots, aprons and kneeling pads. 

They also donated 125 plant pots for us to decorate and seeds to plant in them – some of these have started to grow already! 

“Two visitors from Seddon Construction came to our school to deliver their gifts to us. We walked down to the field and showed them our wildlife area that we are creating. We have a paved pathway, bug houses and an outdoor classroom space with logs to sit on as well as lots and lots of plants, trees and flowers! There’s a lot more that we’d like to do to develop the school gardens and now we are all looking forward to getting outside and using our new gardening equipment. Thank you so much Seddon! Happy Birthday!”
