Our second ever #madeinsandwell Monday star is UKSD, based in West Bromwich.

UKSD stands for UK Security Doors, and the company specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of high-security doors, screens and windows.

It had been trading for nearly three years as a design and installation company when, in summer 2016, it acquired the joinery manufacturer West Midlands Services.

All jobs from West Midlands Services were saved and the purchase enabled UKSD to add manufacturing to its key activities. The company moved from Garretts Green into its current West Bromwich factory on Howard Street.

“We are unique in the respect that we manufacture in all materials,” said Stacey Barber, UKSD’s Business Development Manager.

Indeed – UKSD has hardwood, aluminium, stainless steel and steel ranges called Shakespeare, Chamberlain, Churchill and Brunel: a clear nod to great British achievements.

Stacey said people are vital to the company’s success.

“We have some extremely skilled staff including bench joiners. We are trying to keep skills alive by introducing new young apprentices [to the industry] with an interest in manufacturing in the heart of the West Midlands.”

And what are UKSD’s plans for the future?

“Simply growth – and to continue being a well-respected player in our field,” said Stacey.
