The winners for the West Midlands round will be announced at a black-tie dinner on Friday 28 April. More than 700 construction peers, business leaders and innovators will gather at the ICC in Birmingham to celebrate best practice applied across the region’s landmark projects.

Sandwell Council has been recognised for nurturing the valuable BIM (building information modelling) skills that construction and engineering businesses need, through the ‘BIMwm’ framework. This work has earned the council a shortlisting in the People Development category.

Steve Massey of Sandwell Council said: “BIMwm is our a real-life BIM framework to train, support and develop the incumbent workforce and coach digital engineering skills across new and differing technical trades,” he said. “It’s a unique approach by a local authority whose innovative partnership with BIMwm extends beyond our own organisation and into our SME community”.

“With this shortlisting, we are delighted to have received recognition from construction experts, innovators and peers from the private sector.

On Friday 28 April representatives from Sandwell Council and BIMwm will line up alongside national developers, clients, main contractors and tier-one subcontractors including BAM Construction, Network Rail, Interserve, Keir, South Staffs Water, Cundall, Keepmoat, Morgan Sindall, Spellar Metcalf, Carillion, Stepnell, University of Warwick, University of Wolverhampton, Solihull MBC, Wolverhampton Homes and Wolverhampton City Council. We wish our colleagues all the very best of luck and congratulate them for being finalists.
