Sandwell Council applies for town centre improvement funding
Sandwell Council has submitted an ambitious bid to the government’s Future High Streets Fund to make huge improvements to West Bromwich town centre.
The council is seeking the maximum grant of £25 million in its bid to the government, and will hope that it is selected as one of the local authorities to submit a full business case on more detailed plans for the town centre.
Sandwell Council’s plans for West Bromwich include:
- building additional residential housing,
- developing the indoor markets to encourage arts events and develop the night time economy,
- improving accessibility and public transport,
- introducing more landscaped green areas to the city centre, with improved links to Dartmouth Park and Sandwell Valley Country Park.
The bid has been drawn-up by the council’s regeneration experts and supported by local businesses and community groups. Sixteen companies and organisations have submitted letters of support backing the bid and the need for investment cash.
