A decade of planes, trains and automobiles all #madeinsandwell

Cube logoFrom the latest commercial jets to high speed rail, racing cars to excavators, Cube Precision Engineering in Rowley Regis makes and supplies components for a huge range of high profile planes, trains and automobiles. As the directors are proud to point out, “You may not have heard of us, but you will certainly have seen the products that we manufacture.”

When Phil Bannister and Neil Clifton, two engineers passionate about investing in British engineering, founded the company in 2009, Sandwell was an obvious place to set up shop. “The area is a hub for toolmaking, with the UK’s most skilled workers, suppliers and competitors all within eight miles of our headquarters,” says managing director Neil Clifton.

Ten years later, 70 per cent of purchases made by the business are from within 40 miles of its Cakemore Road site. Staff are also recruited from within a 15 mile radius, with apprenticeships and mentoring schemes on offer to aid retention and support the local economy. There are currently 40 employees on the books.

But while its roots are firmly planted in Sandwell, the company has a global reach, contributing to projects for a number of leading international brands in the automotive, aerospace and defence industries, and working in partnership with companies in the USA, Asia and across Europe.

This year Cube Precision is celebrating its tenth birthday and is looking back with pride on its successes, such as winning Young Business of the Year at the Express and Star Business Awards in May 2013. It is also very much looking to the future with a focus on diversifying into new sectors and a continual investment in new machinery. It’s a strategy that’s paying off, generating a wealth of new contracts. May 2019 was the company’s most successful month ever, with the highest order intake in its ten year history.
