The Black Country Chamber of Commerce is holding a free event on Tuesday 3 November to allow local businesses to hear the story so far on the proposed West Midlands Combined Authority.

"Combined authorities are legal bodies with powers of decision making granted by parliament that are a new way for local authorities to work together on key strategic functions that cross geographic council boundaries and that could be more effectively delivered together rather than separately. Examples include transport, regeneration and skills." From the official West Midlands Combined Authority website (www.westmidlandscombinedauthority.org.uk).

In the West Midlands, seven councils (Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton) have an agreement in principle to form a combined authority.

At this morning event (7:30-10am) taking place at Wolverhampton Racecourse, you can contribute to the evolving journey of the West Midlands Combined Authority and ask questions on behalf of businesses in the Black Country.

You can also find out from Black Country leaders how the West Midlands Combined Authority may help your business grow.

    Confirmed speakers are:
    * Councillor Bob Sleigh, chair of the Shadow Board for the West Midlands Combined Authority
    * Stewart Towe, chair of the Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership
    * Keith Ireland, managing director of Wolverhampton City Council
    * Laura Shoaf, strategic director for transport at the West Midlands Integrated Transport Authority
    * Mike Dell, Devolution 2023 lead at the Black Country Chamber of Commerce.

You can register to attend at http://blackcountrychamber.co.uk/bcc-events?eventId=376&controller=event&task=individualRegister.
