West Bromwich hotel plans to create 100 jobs
An application to build a new Travelodge hotel in West Bromwich has been submitted to Sandwell Council. Bromsgrove-based developer, Hinton Group, proposes a new 78-bed hotel at Providence Place, next to the new West Bromwich Building Society.
Sandwell Council planning committee meets later this week to decide but it looks likely that permission will be granted for the development on the vacant brownfield site. In documents filed ahead of the meeting planning officers said the proposed hotel “is considered both complementary and appropriate to the location”.
The hotel development would not only be a welcome addition to the recent regeneration of West Bromwich but it could also create up to 100 new jobs for the area. According to Hinton Group the hotel itself will create 25 full and part-time jobs, and more than 80 jobs will be created during its construction.
The chosen site is in a prime location with direct access to the M6/M5 and Birmingham city centre. The submitted plans include a 48-cover restaurant/café and a licensed bar at ground floor level, complementing the adjacent office buildings and helping to create employment opportunities for local people.
If planning permission is granted for the hotel Hinton Group said it will take 34 weeks to build.
