Meet Johnson Test Papers (www.johnsontestpapers.com), a specialist manufacturer based at Hainge Park in Oldbury.

Johnson makes rapid tests, such as pH testing strips and tests for water analysis, and filtration products, including filter paper for environmental monitoring.

Tests and papers such as these play a vital role in many industries where analysing solutions is an everyday but important task, from education and research to healthcare.

The company was established in 2000 and acquired in receivership by its current owners, who have increased its workforce from three to 25 people.

Johnson Test Papers’ exports have increased from five per cent of the business to 85 per cent. The company has a distributor network in 30 countries.

Its commitment to high quality is evident in its ISO 9001 registration, and it is working towards ISO 13485 – an international management standard especially for manufacturers of medical devices.

Business development manager Adam Bhui told us how proud Johnson Test Papers is of its “young and energetic workforce”, and how beneficial its Sandwell location is to the company’s output.

“The majority of our team are from within Sandwell, so by providing them with skilled jobs we are helping to contribute to the local economy,” he said. “This is a good location with quick access to the rest of the country. It’s also a great location for the export side of our business, with access to key terminals like Birmingham Airport”.

Adam spoke highly of the local supply chain too.

“We have a good network of companies in the area, providing us with solutions from IT support, transport companies and other key supplies”.

As for the future, Johnson Test Papers will soon be launching new test strips for environmental and water analysis, as well as a new test strip reader app.

“We are a highly innovative company and continue to invest in product research and development,” said Adam.
