Procurement opportunities through the roof for #MadeInSandwell specialist cladding firm Midport Construction

The a metal framework for a building with wooden planks across the roof. This #MadeInSandwell Monday we’re taking a look at industrial roofline, building envelope and specialist cladding firm Midport Construction. The West Bromwich-based SME supplies, repairs and replaces industrial roofing and cladding systems across the borough.

The company, which will be celebrating its 25th anniversary next year, has developed a reputation within the high-end cladding solutions market for its design excellence and high-quality site craft, whilst offering value for money.

Over the last 25 years it has gone from strength to strength to provide a first-class service supplying and fixing industrial roofs. It also offers a roofing maintenance service to building owners and occupiers of industrial/commercial units, including annual contracts to clean out gutters, rain pipes and remove unwanted moss, dirt and grime.

Founded in 1996 by George Hodgetts, the family-owned roofing specialist firm built on its existing market position by working with Sandwell Council’s Business Growth Team. Through our Aim for Gold programme Midport Construction identified areas of improvement and developed skills to gain a competitive advantage.

The Aim for Gold business growth programme provides support for SMEs by helping them to identify areas for business growth, offering one-to-one support and help to find funding, as well as professionally delivered masterclasses to help develop growth plans.

Managing director George Hodgetts said about the programme: “We really welcome the support offered through Aim for Gold by Sandwell Council. Over many years, the Council has offered some great impetus that has consolidated our position in a competitive market, whether it’s networking events, facilitated meetings with buyers or bid-writing sessions. I would certainly encourage any other businesses to speak to the council to learn about the support that is available through the Aim for Gold programme.”

In an ever changing and highly competitive market, Midport Construction believes in continually investing in the latest technologies and innovative new design techniques to ensure that its clients receive the very latest in engineered cladding and roofing solutions.

The company prides itself on its professionalism, quality and efficiency, and has carried out work for some major contractors and clients over the years, including Evesham Country Park in Worcestershire, Tipton leisure centre, and wind-farm specialists Forkers Limited.

Midport has recently taken significant steps to improve its business-winning credentials even further by gaining a premier industry accolade to showcase its capabilities and supply chain expertise. The highly-coveted Constructionline Gold membership should help the firm to capitalise on emerging market development and pipeline opportunities aligned to some of the UK’s biggest building projects.

Midport can now demonstrate its dedication to excellence in the best, safest and most efficient method through the Constructionline online platform, providing clients with transparency, digital assessments, access to supply chain audits, quality management verification and contract stewardship.

Managing director George commented: “With modern procurement methods constantly evolving, Constructionline Gold status is now really important if SMEs want to win work with main contractors delivering major framework projects, on the strength of us winning the Tipton water sports venue, we aspired for similar success when we approached Wates Construction to bid for the roofing works contract on the £73m Sandwell Aquatics Centre, however, following meetings and advice offered by main contractor – Wates Construction, we quickly realised that Constructionline Gold accreditation is now the pre-requisite to quote for new work.”

Congratulations on your success Midport, keep up the good work!
