£3m contract boost for Sandwell automotive supplier
Sandwell automotive supplier Alucast has secured more than £3m of new contracts in the last 12 months from car makers looking to explore ways of reducing weight on future models.
Alucast is one of the UK’s largest independent aluminium foundries, specialising in providing aluminium castings for a global customer base involved in automotive, agriculture, hydraulics and the oil and gas industry.
The firm has benefited in the last year from the move by car manufacturers to lighter vehicles, as they look at ways to reduce emissions and improve fuel performance.
It has recently opened additional facilities adjacent to its Wednesbury headquarters with support from Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council, Black Country LEP and the Black Country Growth Deal. The expansion provides an additional 7000 square feet of dedicated machining space.
The company is on course for £8.5m annual sales this year, and the larger facility and new contracts will create tens of new jobs for the region towards the end of the year.
As well as the additional manufacturing space acquired, the company has recently signed off a £400,000 acquisition of three 5-axis CNC machines from the Engineering Technology Group (ETG), which will help it supply final machined parts to customers.
Two years ago, the company celebrated its 50th birthday and since then has enjoyed a whirlwind of success as it has made the most of opportunities that have arisen, such as the electrification of vehicles, for which it can produce castings for motor cases, liquid cooling and power electronics.
The recent investment has contributed to Alucast’s success in winning new contracts and the company plans to continue to invest in its capabilities, design team and manufacturing facility.
