BIMwm shortlisted for RICS BIM4SME Awards 2017
The shortlist of nominees has been announced for the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and BIM4SME 2017 Awards. Sandwell Council is pleased to announce that its partner BIMwm has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Best Overall BIM Project category.
BIMwm has been recognised for its unique and exemplary framework approach designed to help SMEs gain the right combination of skills, tools and experience to unlock the benefits that BIM adoption presents to small and medium enterprises.
The RICS BIM4SME Awards, being staged for the third consecutive year, are an important milestone in the implementation of BIM (building information modelling) in UK construction. There are over 300,000 construction companies in the UK. SMEs are the lifeblood of the sector and make up over 90 per cent of the construction-related supply chain (including material suppliers, component manufacturers, specialist subcontractors and support services consultants).
BIMwm’s entry focused on its delivery plans to accelerate BIM skill sets for SMEs across six key workstreams, raising their awareness of the significant opportunities that digital media presents to promote products and engineered designs, and giving them a real business advantage.
The prestigious awards ceremony, taking place at the Westminster Boating Base on Tuesday 12 September, will celebrate the skills and success of UK-based SMEs and their implementation of BIM.
While BIM is often perceived as a process to which only large businesses can apply maximum resources, that is not a truth reflected by this year’s awards shortlist. With the UK government’s BIM mandate now in force, innovative SMEs are being highlighted for their BIM maturity, achieving major benefits, work-winning skills and efficiency gains from BIM adoption.
The hotly contested categories include Best Overall BIM Project, Best BIM Project for SME engagement, Best use of BIM for Sustainability and Best use of BIM for Embedded Data.
