Established in 1933, the Oldbury business specialises in the transportation of semi hazardous materials including chemicals and paint. The business operates from a number of depots across the country including Glasgow, Wakefield, Manchester, Bridgend Southampton and Luton. The firm currently employs more than 400 staff and on average carries 3,400 consignments a day.

The company will use the funding to purchase five new Mercedes trucks, adding to their existing fleet of over 200 vehicles.

The need for the additional vehicles comes after the firm won a contract with Sika, worth £1.25m per annum for the next five years. To support ongoing growth, the business plans to recruit a number of new drivers to facilitate the new contract.

Alan Swarbreck, Financial Controller at Clarke Transport, said: “This funding package from Santander will not only allow us to service the needs of the new contract but also help to ensure that our fleet is one of the most up-to-date on the road. We look forward to working closely with Santander over the coming years as the business builds on over 80 years of haulage experience.”

Michael Graham, Relationship Director at Santander Corporate & Commercial, said: “We were first introduced to Clarke Transport by Midlands Asset Finance who highlighted the businesses strong annual growth and vast experience in the industry. It’s fantastic to see this Midlands-based family owned business continuing to grow and support both local jobs and the national economy.”
