Businesses urged to register for free workplace testing

Businesses across Sandwell are using free Covid-19 testing to keep staff safe – and now test-at-home kits are available to help curb the spread of coronavirus. Register by Monday 12 April.
Around one in three people with coronavirus don’t have symptoms, which means they could be spreading the virus in workplaces without knowing. Rapid testing detects cases quickly – in under 30 minutes – meaning positive cases can isolate immediately, breaking chains of transmission.
The Public Health team at Sandwell Council has been supporting businesses to set up tailored testing for each location including East End Foods in West Bromwich, Haden Cross Fire Station in Cradley Heath and at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre site in Smethwick. This has included the construction of testing booths or cabins that have been designed for the purpose of testing.
Paul Reynolds, Site Director Wates, Sandwell Aquatics Centre site, said: “The safety of our workforce is paramount, and the Lateral Testing Facility has been able to provide a high level of confidence to everyone on our site that this is a safe environment to come to work in.
“Due to the prestigious nature of the project, it also provides delivery confidence that we can maintain construction progress whilst complying with the current government guidelines. The feedback from our workforce has been extremely positive and they really appreciate the ‘peace of mind’ that the testing provides.”
Lisa McNally, Sandwell’s Director of Public Health, said: “Regular workplace testing is a vital part of our route out of the national lockdown.
“These rapid tests will allow positive cases of Covid-19 to be caught quickly, which is crucial in helping businesses protect their workplaces and employees as restrictions are lifted.
