Celebrating creative connections that are #madeinsandwell

Sandwell has been built on making things, and this includes our wonderfully diverse creative industries. This week #madeinsandwell Monday celebrates our singers, artists, performers, writers and film makers, and their ability to bring people together at this difficult time.

With people across the country in social isolation or practising social distancing, disconnection and loneliness are a major issue. Creative Black Country is an organisation that works with people across the region to “discover, explore and grow an exciting and meaningful programme of arts activity”, working to build a Black Country where everyone can create, take part in and enjoy the arts. It is tackling the current situation head-on by commissioning projects that will help people make connections and feel supported in their local communities, bringing fun, joy and creativity to the region.

If you work in dance, theatre, music, visual arts, design, heritage, storytelling, film or any other creative or cultural field, the ‘Creative Connections’ programme is offering commissions of £500 to £2000 for projects that encourage people in Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton to get creative and connect with other people to share new experiences, while still maintaining social distancing. Voluntary groups, clubs, libraries, faith groups, charities and schools are also encouraged to apply.

The projects can be analogue or digital, or a combination of both. They can be experiments to try out a new idea, or a fully formed project. You can apply as part of an established group or as an individual. The only essential elements are that is must be a brand new creative project, that local people are involved in the design and delivery of the project, and that it reaches people who may not normally have this kind of creative opportunity.

The deadline for submissions is midday on Monday 13 April. So, Sandwell creatives, get those thinking caps on! Creative Black Country also has advisers on hand to offer support, to help you develop your idea and put together the proposal and budget. And if your project is selected, please let us know so we can celebrate your wonderful work.
