Chemical manufacturer Robinson Brothers helping to keep local communities safe with hand sanitiser #madeinsandwell

Sandwell chemical manufacturing firm Robinson Brothers is making and supplying local care homes and support services with much-needed hand sanitiser.

Back in 2017 we featured family business Robinson Brothers as one of our #madeinsandwell stars and since then it has continued to go from strength and strength. It is now stepping up to meet demands for the crucial product to help keep local communities and key workers safe.

The move by the company to manufacture hand sanitiser could help other local companies to get back to work in a safer way.

So far Robinson Brothers has supplied local health care services with the product free of charge. The recipients include Tipton Home Care – which provides personal care and support throughout the Black Country and surrounding areas – Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield, and a GP surgery in Albrighton.

Other recipients of the locally-made hand sanitiser include STAR (short-term assessment and reablement service) teams at Sandwell Council, which provide vital support for people returning home after being in hospital, and Broadway Halls, a care home in Dudley.

Founded in 1869, Robinson Brothers is better known for producing speciality organic chemicals. The West Bromwich firm is one of the UK’s largest independent chemical manufacturers of speciality chemicals and rubber accelerators.

It usually deals with processes such as amination, bromination, thiolation, oxidation, hydrogenation and heterocyclic chemistry but has recently turned its hand to manufacturing a World Health Organisation formula hand sanitiser, based on 60 percent+ Isopropanol.

Last year Robinson Brothers celebrated its 150th anniversary and it continues to play an important role at the heart of the Sandwell community. It employs many specialists across the manufacturing industry and engages with local schools and universities to offer work placements and apprenticeships.
