Our final #madeinsandwell Monday spotlight of 2017 falls on CMT Engineering, a Cradley Heath company whose local story goes back nearly a century.

CMT Engineering is a newly formed company with two divisions: CMT Tube Fittings and CMT Clamps. Tube Fittings is the oldest part of the business, founded in Old Hill in 1924, while Clamps was established as a family business in Worcestershire in 1977.

The two came together in 2004 when Clamps was acquired by CMT Tube Fittings, who consolidated manufacturing at the Corngreaves Road site that Tube Fittings had occupied since 1976.

The newly formed CMT Engineering was acquired by Anjali Agrawal in 2016 to continue strong manufacturing traditions.

CMT produces steel tube, pipe fittings, clamps, syphons and floats. It has specialist machines for threading and grooving, and produces bespoke turned parts in a wide variety of materials, including high temperature and chemical-resistant plastics. Its Unicone hose connection system is renowned in the bulk power industry for its strength and reliability and CMT is the UK’s leading manufacturer of mild steel screwed pipe fittings for steam lines and industrial applications.

Sales manager Steve Pickett says the company puts its success down to the experience and knowledge of its dedicated and reliable employees.

“A large number of our team have worked for CMT for many years. This not only ensures consistency in the quality of products, but also ensures that the traditions and ethos of the company are maintained,” said Steve.

One of the reasons CMT Engineering has remained loyal to our region for so long is the business support on offer here. Sandwell Council recently helped CMT in successfully applying for Black Country Transformational GOLD funding, which will help the company continue to develop and grow as it approaches its 100th year.
