Motorists who use the overflow car park at Dudley Port train station are being advised to find alternatives after it closes for construction work on Monday 24 August.

The temporary closure is part of the plans to upgrade the ten-year-old car park into a ‘park and ride’ interchange, serving both train services and the forthcoming Midlands Metro extension. It will also give construction workers access to the route of the former South Staffordshire Railway, which will form seven kilometres of the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill metro line.

The main car park at the station, accessed from the A461, won’t be affected and will remain in use throughout the construction work. The plans are being overseen by the Midland Metro Alliance with the aim of providing a modern and efficient transport network across the Black Country.

Project director Ian Collins said: “There will, unfortunately, be some disruption whilst we build the extension, and for this we apologise. Rail commuters will still be able to access Dudley Port Railway Station throughout the metro works and the station will continue to be connected by local bus services.”
