Council leader welcomes West Brom decision
Sandwell Council Leader Councillor Darren Cooper is welcoming a decision by the West Brom to build a new HQ in the town.
He hailed it as a big boost to the council’s drive to regenerate the town centre.
And he said it showed that Sandwell is “going places” in working with business to bring in new facilities and jobs for local people.
The building society announced today (30 Nov) it is keeping its head office in West Bromwich.
It will build a new HQ at Providence Place.
Councillor Cooper said: “I am delighted that the West Brom has made this decision to stay in the town.
“This is good for the members of the society and its staff and it’s a big boost for the council’s drive to regenerate West Bromwich town centre.
“This is already attracting some £400 million-worth of development, mostly from the private sector.
“We’re on track to get a ‘new look’ centre with a great range of new shops, a new deal on leisure for visitors and other facilities.
“It will create thousands of new jobs for the people of Sandwell – and the West Brom’s new HQ will add to the momentum that’s building up.”
He added: “This is further proof that we’re going places.
“It’s all part and parcel of the confidence that businesses now have in working with Sandwell Council.
“They know we’re open for business.”
