DPD delivers turnover of more than £1.3bn
Award-winning Smethwick-based parcel giant DPD Group UK has increased its annual turnover by over £100m, passing the £1.3bn mark in the most recent financial year.
This is the latest good news in a bumper year for DPD. In June, the company expanded into over 70 sq ft of additional warehouse space, next to its existing operations on Parsonage Street in Oldbury. The group also made it onto Sandwell’s Top 50 Fastest Growing Companies Index, coming in at number 48 with a 10.98 per cent growth in turnover. In addition to the rise in turnover, the most recent accounts show that pre-tax profits are also up, going from £160m to £164m.
The company began life in the UK in 1970 as Courier Express, changing its name to Parceline in 1984 when it was acquired by Mayne Nickless of Australia. La Poste bought the company in 2000 and in 2008 Parceline became known as DPD. It now has over 60 bases across the UK, employing more than 13,000 people.
Things continue to look rosy for DPD going forward. A statement signed off by the board said: “The company has made plans to continue to grow market share and has put in place strategies and investment programmes to achieve this objective. The board believes that the company is well placed to deliver further growth of revenue and profit from both core products and from further value-added services.”
Think Sandwell congratulates DPD on its success and wishes the company all the best for their future plans. To find out how we can help your business grow, visit our Business Services pages.
