EWS acquired by Hadley
Wolverhampton-based EWS Manufacturing has been bought by Smethwick-based Hadley Industries, in a move to enlarge the Hadley Group’s European and international footprint.
EWS operates from a 90,000 sq ft factory on Headway Road in Wolverhampton. The company employs 70 people and produces over 25 million metres of cold rollformed steel every year. It exports a wide range of products, including poultry troughs, vehicle sections, vine posts, support channels and reinforcement for UPV windows and doors. It has also invested heavily in the latest technology to enable the design and manufacture of bespoke products.
The Hadley Group was founded in 1964 by Philip J Hadley and provides cold rollformed products to a number of sectors, particularly automotive, construction, industrial and agricultural. It produces over one billion metres of its patented, award-winning UltraSTEEL every year from a number of sites in the UK, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, and employs over 600 people.
Nick Dawson, from law firm Irwin Mitchell that advised Hadley Industries on the deal, said that the acquisition reflects Hadley Industries’ ambition, and demonstrates the strength and potential of the UK’s manufacturing sector.
The purchase has also prompted a number of new appointments – Hadley Group managing director Stewart Towe has become its new chairman, Ben Towe has stepped into the role of managing director and Michael Castellucci has taken on the position of engineering director, responsible for all technical and operational functions.
Think Sandwell congratulates Stewart, Ben and Michael on their new positions, and wishes the two companies all the best in their joint future. To find out how we can help your company grow, visit our Business Services pages.
