The government has agreed to fund the remaining building work on the Midland Metropolitan Hospital after construction company Carillion collapsed in January.

The project was left unfinished and with an uncertain future, but the hospital trust, local partners and government have come together to find the additional funding needed to ensure the new hospital opens its doors by 2022.

Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands, and Toby Lewis, chief executive of West Birmingham NHS Trust, have both welcomed the news and praised the hard work of all involved.

The council will be looking to continuing the partnership with the hospital trust, working to ensure that the Midland Metropolitan Hospital will have the biggest possible positive impact on the neighbourhoods surrounding the site, and on the wider Sandwell economy.
