Historic manufacturer unlocks £80m turnover

Lowe & Fletcher, a lock-making manufacturer headquartered in Wednesbury, has achieved turnover of over £80m in the year to December 2018.

The historic company has been making locks since 1889, when John Lowe and Thomas Fletcher founded their new business in Willenhall. It is still family-owned, having been passed down through five generations, and its products now range from simple mechanical locks to the latest electronic security systems.

The wider Lowe & Fletcher Group also includes Euro-Locks and has diversified into metal finishing and coating, as well as fire safety systems through BLE and Coopers Fire. It opened its purpose-built Wednesbury headquarters in 1998 and also has sites across the UK, Belgium, France, Germany, Poland and the USA.

Although pre-tax profits fell from £6.4m to £5.1m, as Think Sandwell reported back in November 2018, turnover has been inching towards the £80m ceiling for a while. The firm has finally broken through with a £2m rise, bringing the total to £81.9m. With the company’s forthcoming 130th anniversary next year, there is a lot to celebrate.

A statement signed off by the board said: “During the year the group has invested significant capital expenditure into the factory in Poland. The directors are satisfied with the trading position for the group overall.”

Think Sandwell congratulates Lowe & Fletcher on its success and wishes it all the best for next year’s historic celebrations. For more information how our team can help your business grow, visit our Business Services pages.
