The jobs vary across a range of disciplines, including engineering, project management and procurement. They will be advertised as part of a three-month direct recruitment drive by HS2.

The construction of the first phase of HS2, between Birmingham and London, is just weeks away so HS2 needs to increase its workforce. Over 300 of the roles it will create will be based in Birmingham.

Phase One will see the new high-speed railway line constructed from Euston to north of Birmingham, where it will re-join the existing West Coast Mainline. Services will travel onwards to places like Manchester, Glasgow, Liverpool, Preston and Wigan. Phase One will open between 2029 and 2033.

The new line between Birmingham and London will run on 134 miles of dedicated track.  Four brand new stations and two new depots will also be built.

The jobs could be a welcome boost for workers across the region, providing employment during this challenging time as the country emerges from the Covid-19 crisis and the economy recovers.

Once recruited, the new roles will push the total number of jobs the HS2 project has supported to more than 10,000.

The project will also hopefully support the regeneration and economic prosperity of towns and cities all along the route.
