International Women in Engineering Day 2019

INWED logoInternational Women in Engineering Day (INWED) is taking place this year on Sunday 23 June. The day is an annual international awareness campaign to raise the profile of women in engineering and focus attention on the amazing career opportunities available to girls in this industry.

It celebrates the outstanding achievements of women engineers throughout the world, and 2019 celebrates the sixth INWED and 100 years of the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) in the UK. The theme for 2019 is Transform The Future.

National Women in Engineering Day was launched in the UK in 2014 by the Women’s Engineering Society to celebrate its 95th anniversary. Since that launch the day has grown enormously to the point where it received UNESCO (United Nations educational, scientific and cultural organisation) patronage in 2016.

In 2017, National Women in Engineering Day became international for the first time due to the interest and enthusiasm developed by the international audience and participants in the previous years. International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) was born to allow the celebration of women in engineering to become global.

This year all groups (governmental, educational, corporate, professional engineering institutions, individuals and other organisations) are being encouraged to organise their own events in support of the day.

Sandwell Council is supporting INWED and would like to encourage all businesses and organisations, in particular engineering firms, in Sandwell to do the same. If you think your business can get involved there are supporting resources available on the INWED website.

The idea is to link together any events taking place around the world by getting as much publicity as possible using the INWED logo and hashtag #TransformTheFuture.

The aim is to raise the profile of an engineering career as a great choice, with an exciting future and amazing opportunities for women. So, get organising and help to get the hashtag #TransformTheFuture trending on Twitter!
