Jan Britton visits Sandwell companies in recognition of their success
Sandwell Council’s Chief Executive Jan Britton has been out and about in Sandwell, visiting three companies in recognition of their recent success.
On Thursday 30 May, in an event arranged by BID Sandwell, Jan went to see three businesses which have demonstrated significant growth and investment in the region.
His first stop was CPN Systems in Oldbury, engineers of quality control systems. He also visited Mallatite in Oldbury, manufacturers of traffic management and safety systems.
Jan’s middle visit was to Latham’s Steel Security Doorsets in Tividale – a company that has featured in our #madeinsandwell Monday slot and been a recipient of both a Black Country Transformational GOLD grant and GPS funding.
Latham’s has undergone a period of recent substantial expansion, investing over £500,000 into creating new and expanding existing facilities at its Tividale site. This has increased the workforce from nine to 37 members of staff.
With the opening of a new showroom and the purchase of additional warehouse space, as well as the imminent launch of an e-commerce website for sister company Latham’s Hardware, the company is going from strength to strength.
Jan is always keen to step into the community and see for himself the business culture in Sandwell. He said: “I was very pleased to visit Latham’s Security Doorsets last week. It was good to see a top-class Sandwell company in action and to understand how the business has grown, and continues to grow, so strongly.
“Sandwell Council is very interested in the success of local businesses and the more we understand about the needs of business, the more we can help.”
Managing director Alex Latham said: “We’re extremely proud to have been selected for a visit from Jan Britton. We’ve worked hard to continue investment and growth in the company, and it’s great to have the opportunity to share our story”.
During the visit, Jan was accompanied by Geraldine Thomas and Pat Parkes from the Bid Sandwell Management Team on behalf of Albion BID Co. Limited. Albion BID provides additional funding for specific development and improvement initiatives in the Oldbury and West Bromwich areas, and had been on hand previously to support Latham’s during its expansion period.
