Keep on rolling: #madeinsandwell family tyre business still going strong after 50 years
Our #madeinsandwell Monday star this week is Addison Tyres Ltd of Princes End, Tipton. This family business is celebrating over 50 years of trading in the tyre industry.
Roy Addison started the business in 1965. His son Jason joined in 1987 and is now managing director.
Addison Tyres supplies the borough’s vehicles with top-branded and budget tyres at the lowest possible prices, and prides itself on having highly trained and experienced staff.
The Addison team includes three Institute of Motor Industry-certified bike technicians to ensure the safety of its customers. It offers a ride-in-ride-out service for motorcycles.
Addison Tyres is a member of Point S, the leading independent tyre dealer network which has over 3,300 retail tyre depots in 28 countries and sells over 16 million tyres per year. With this enormous buying power Addison Tyres can buy directly from manufacturers and offer its customers cheap prices on top branded and budget tyres.
Jason Addison explained: “We can save the general public on average fifty to sixty pounds on the cost of a set of tyres, and businesses with a fleet of vehicles can save thousands of pounds a year. We are also now offering accidental damage warranty with many of our tyres free of charge, and our fast-track service for account customers ensures a quick turnaround too.”
Jason told Think Sandwell that being situated in Sandwell is beneficial to his family business.
“Our central location only five minutes from Tipton town centre means we’re close to the Black Country route and the M6 and M5, providing easy access for customers.
“We’ve also received great support from Sandwell Council, and from the Black Country Chamber of Commerce through all the years we’ve been a member,”
Addison Tyres has recently invested over £100,000 in refurbishing its Tipton depot with new equipment: Hunter 4 wheel alignment, Hoffman tyre fitting machines, laser wheel balancers and new-technology machinery for alloy wheel buckle repairs.
The company hopes to be celebrating 100 years of trading in its centenary year 2065. And we hope so too!
