Following a two-year search for a suitable site in the West Midlands and amid increasing demand for warehousing in the region, logistics and warehouse specialist PGS Global Logistics found an ideal site in West Bromwich.

The Birmingham-based company is investing £10m in a purpose-built warehouse at the Sandwell site to support continued growth.

The West Bromwich site is ideal for PGS as it offers the opportunity to construct a purpose-built warehouse incorporating solar power into the design, which the company believes will future-proof the operation for the benefit of the business and the environment.

Recently the founder of PGS, Paul Eyles, took part in a breaking ground ceremony at the site with his three children, who all work in the business.

Paul founded the business 30 years ago and despite now being a logistics giant the company prides itself on paying close attention to detail and providing a personal service to its customers that is only normally associated with a small family run business.

PGS also supports worthy causes in the local community and just last month donated a VW Transporter to the Birmingham Food Bank. The van will be used as a crucial support vehicle, enabling the food bank to collect donations from all over the region.

Previous donations have included the use of the company’s 1966 classic London Bus to pick up those in need of assistance and take them to the food bank facility for meals.

The new West Bromwich warehouse project is set to deliver more than 30 jobs to Sandwell once the 80,000 sq ft facility opens in early 2023. The warehouse space will add to the company’s existing 14-acre site near Birmingham Airport and grow the group’s total warehouse space to 350,000 sq ft.

It will double the company’s pallet storage capabilities from 15,000 to 30,000 and to maximise capacity the high specification warehouse will also benefit from Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) pallet racking and electric forklift trucks, creating a world-class facility for storage and picking.

PGS is a shareholder member of the Pallet-Track network, which enables independent logistics firms to work together to collect and deliver palletised freight more efficiently. By increasing its pallet handling capacity, PGS will be able to transport more freight via the Pallet-Track network, supporting the operations of other hauliers around the UK.
