A scheme to turn derelict land into a brand new residential area has been approved by Sandwell Council.

The 14-acre plot, straddling West Bromwich Street in Oldbury, was an industrial site and once home to the Griffin Foundry, but has been vacant for 25 years. Transforming it into modern housing will not only redevelop the site and improve the local environment, but will also bring more people to the town and give the local economy a boost.

The £45m construction scheme, which was approved subject to conditions, outlines plans to build a total of 234 properties – 152 two-, three- and four-bedroom houses, 82 one- and two-bedroom apartments. Access roads, parking spaces and open recreational spaces are also included.

The application, made jointly by Taylor Grange Developments and Lovell Homes, said the scheme “will benefit significantly the environment in this prominent and busy location … and provide further housing choice for the local community.”
