Sanctuary Housing to provide 70 new homes for Sandwell
Housing association Sanctuary Housing has agreed a deal with developer Woodbourne Group for the construction of 70 new homes at its Canalside development in West Bromwich.
Sanctuary Housing is a not-for-profit organisation that reinvests any profit it makes back into housing and community services. It is one of the UK’s leading social landlords, providing good quality, affordable housing.
The organisation has over fifty years’ experience and manages more than 69,000 homes across England, with more than 14,000 homes in the Midlands. It has a wide range of homes available to rent or buy, and it aims to meet the needs of local communities.
The new West Bromwich properties will all be delivered for affordable rent and construction is set to start on the scheme this month.
Demolition work has already taken place at the Canalside site to make way for the new homes. The site is a part-derelict industrial estate at Black Lake in West Bromwich and it is hoped that the new homes will help to breathe new life into the area.
Architecture firm Chetwoods were appointed by Woodbourne Group on the redevelopment of the industrial infill brownfield site, with a brief to create a new sustainable community of 70 high-quality new homes. The sustainable housing scheme will include 53 houses and 17 apartments.
The estate will sit next to the Black Lake tram stop, with a travel time of just 19 minutes to Birmingham city centre. It will also provide charging points for EV vehicles and offer bicycle storage.
The planning application for the £13m scheme was backed by the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and MP Adrian Bailey.
