Sandwell companies give residential home free facelift

image1Several local businesses recently donated their time and materials for free to repair and renovate Fountain Court Residential Unit in Smethwick.

The accommodation, which is home to sixteen residents, cares for older people with dementia and mental health issues. The centre is owned by Sandwell Council and provides personal care and 24-hour nursing. Under the ‘Everyday Heroes’ scheme, volunteers from nearby businesses decorated the community lounge, repaired damaged footpaths and improved access to the nursing home’s garden.

During National Customer Service Week in October, the project was recognised as a social value commitment for the companies involved, which included Stourbridge Paving Company, Johnstones Paints, City Electrical Factors, painting and decorating firm Cubic FM, electrical and mechanical services provider the Dodd Group, and Graham Decorators.

Sharon Billinge, manager at Fountain Court, said: “We’re so grateful to everyone involved for their contribution, whether it was supplying materials and equipment or their time. The improvements are very much appreciated and will enhance the comfort and enjoyment of our residents.”

James Taylor, contracts manager at Stourbridge Paving Company, commented: “We were very grateful to be given the opportunity to be able to give back to the local community. We hope there will be many more projects like this in the future to get on board with. It is nice to know the work that we have done has given the residents and visitors use of their garden area again.”
