Sandwell firm and Wolverhampton University go BiG
Tipton powder coating system provider, TD Finishing, is working with Wolverhampton University on its BiG (business interfacing graduates) scheme, which is aimed at businesses creating or developing a new product.
The BiG graduate work placement scheme is being run by Wolverhampton University’s faculty of science and engineering. It is a way of bringing together new graduate high-level skills and product development business needs in a short term, supervised, project placement.
The scheme helps graduates to gain experience applying their academic skills in a real working environment while enabling businesses to benefit from new graduate minds working on projects supported by professionals and academics at the university.
Graduates recruited by BiG have access to the latest design software and analysis tools, meaning the best solutions can be applied to the development of a project.
TD Finishing supplies paint finishing and powder coating systems to clients throughout the UK and Europe. It specialises in the design and installation of bespoke finishing systems. Its product range includes pre-treatment plant, ovens, conveyors and electrical control systems.
The company is looking for graduates to develop 3D design drawings for an on-line spray pre-treatment and powder coating system.
Graduates recruited to the scheme are based at the Wolverhampton Science Park office with supervision and mentoring by University academic and professional staff. They are paid by the University through the WXP programme and placements typically last for six weeks but may be extended subject to agreement of terms with the business partner.
The scheme’s graduates and academic staff are skilled to support developments in the following areas:
- Product design
- CAD
- Mechanical engineering
- Simulation (finite element analysis)
- Prototyping (3D printing)
- Software development and applications.
