Sandwell firm invests £700k in cutting-edge laser technology

accurate laserOldbury-based laser-cutting specialist firm Accurate Laser Cutting Ltd has announced a £700,000 investment in the UK’s first 10kW fiber laser.

Accurate Laser Cutting offers precision laser cutting and pressbrake services. It uses the latest equipment and technology to engineer, cut, fold and bend a wide range of materials to any specification.

The latest investment is the company’s second major investment in 18 months in a Bystronic fiber laser, a high performance piece of equipment capable of laser cutting aluminium and stainless steel up to 30mm thick, mild steel up to 25mm, 15mm brass and 12mm copper.

Two state-of-the-art Bystronic fiber lasers now completely replace the CO2 cutting equipment at Accurate’s West Midlands manufacturing premises.

According to Accurate’s website, director Steve Morgan explained: “Following the success of replacing our first CO2 laser with a 6kW fiber laser in 2015, the move to upgrade our second CO2 was inevitable. As soon as we heard whispers of a 10kW fiber laser being developed by Bystronic, we knew it was only a matter of time before we had an all fiber line-up.”

Company director Jon Till added: “In our view, having the best technology equals the best service. With more speed, we have more capacity available to service our customers with even shorter lead times and still consistently deliver on quality and price.

“Previously, fiber lasers performed better on thinner gauge materials, but with our new 10kW machine this is no longer the case. For example, it can process 10mm mild steel just as fast as our old CO2 could process 5mm, with excellent cut quality.”

To celebrate the investment in the new laser the company hosted its first ever open house event at its newly refurbished 14,000 sq ft manufacturing facility in Oldbury. In collaboration with machinery manufacturer Bystronic, Accurate debuted the state-of-the-art ByStar fiber cutting system to visitors across the two day event.

Through a series of live demonstrations visitors had the opportunity to witness the equipment’s phenomenal processing speeds of up to 60 metres per minute, along with its ability to cut sheet metal up to 30mm thick.

The company operates a 24/7 production schedule and is now set to benefit from a valued jump in capacity as a result of the new technology.
