Sandwell steel firm investing in the future

cutting-1143526-639x424West Bromwich steel processing firm Bromford Iron & Steel has invested a six-figure sum into its production operation in the first phase of a ten-year transformation programme.

With over 200 years of history Bromford Iron & Steel produces hot-rolled flats, sections and custom profiles at its plant in West Bromwich to supply its customers worldwide.

In 2014 the company was acquired by specialist steel manufacturing group OSSL and has since undergone major development. Extensive investment in new plant and technology, in particular its control systems, has ensured that the firm’s product quality and ability to produce small tonnages equals world-best standards.

Bromford Iron & Steel’s in-house computer-aided design and onsite roll-turning facilities enable it to specialise in producing rolled sections specific to its customers’ applications, eliminating expensive time, labour and machining costs.

Despite the recent challenging conditions faced by the UK steel industry the firm has increased its export contracts and has begun to see new growth. It currently exports around 65 per cent of its output.

In order to exploit this recent growth Bromford Iron & Steel is now investing in the implementation of new technologies to increase its agility and improve its customer service even further, through measures such as data capture and innovative new maintenance strategies.

The investment follows new financial backing received from corporate finance group Close Brothers in December last year. A deal was secured after the firm’s previous bank decided it was no longer interested in investing in SME manufacturing.
