Smethwick-based precision engineering firm A&M EDM has enjoyed success in two prestigious business awards in recent days.

At the annual Black Country Chamber of Commerce awards A&M won the Excellence in Manufacturing and Engineering award for the second year running, against high calibre competition from Moog and Simworx.

This accolade came two days after A&M scored a triple success with three engineers selected for inclusion in The Manufacturer Top 100 report for 2017 at a national manufacturing event in Liverpool.

Managing director Mark Wingfield was selected by the judging panel as one of twenty exemplars for his contribution to the manufacturing sector.  Mark started A&M with Arthur Watts in 2002 and the company has now grown to 60 staff with sales of £4.65m.

Mark was joined in the Top 100 by two of A&M’s experienced engineers – Gary Surman, A&M’s works manager and Stuart Talbot, senior production and design engineer – both selected for their work as unsung heroes.

Mark Wingfield said: “This has been an incredible couple of days, we presented a very strong case to the chamber judges based on our work for aerospace and automotive customers, but we knew it would be hard to win this award in consecutive years.

“A&M are proud to have three people in the manufacturing Top 100. It’s down to the incredible engineering capabilities of our workforce and our commitment to keep investing in new machinery. Personally, I feel privileged to be an exemplar, it takes many years to develop engineering skills and you keep learning, making this such an exciting sector to work in.”
