Sweet jobs boost for Sandwell
A Black Country chain of dessert restaurants is about to open a new shop in West Bromwich. The Little Dessert Shop already has two shops, in Wolverhampton and Wednesbury.
The company has acquired a former Pizza Hut at the Farley Centre in West Bromwich in a six-figure property deal. The new opening in May this year will create 40 to 50 jobs for the area, taking the total number of employees across the three Sandwell shops to 120.
The independently run and family-owned Little Dessert Shop was founded in 2014 and offers a range of cakes, crepes, waffles, fondue, sundaes and more than 60 flavours of ice cream, gelatos and sorbets. All its desserts are handcrafted using fresh ingredients.
The business was born from a passion for fine desserts. According to the owner, Mu’azzam Ali, the concept behind it was to take a simple dessert and turn it into a masterpiece for everyone to enjoy, and so far this has proved to be very successful. There were queues outside the door of the first shop when it opened in Wolverhampton in May 2015.
The Black Country dessert chain opened its second outlet in Wednesfield in November 2015, following the runaway success of its flagship branch. The company also celebrated winning a national award late last year when it fought off fierce competition to be crowned the Dessert Outlet of the Year at the Food Awards England 2015.
