Time for suppliers to visit the hospital
Think Sandwell, the council’s business growth team, today announces that it will be co-hosting an event for regional suppliers to meet with Carillion – the UK’s leading integrated support services company – following its appointment as the preferred bidder on the £430m Midland Metropolitan Hospital.
To be held on Thursday 8 October 2015 at the CAP Centre in Smethwick , the “meet the preferred bidder day” is expected to attract dozens of top regional suppliers to the health sector to engage with the Carillion, which also led the development of the Library of Birmingham.
Local firms will get the chance to showcase their manufacturing prowess, engineering innovations, clinical and built-environment technologies to a prestigious group of health sector chiefs, procurement leads, architects and senior engineers from the Black Country headquartered company.
The event – which is being co-hosted by Sandwell Council and Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust – aims to forge stronger links between the region’s talented supply chain and Carillion’s key construction team involved in the new seven-storey, 670 bed hospital development in Grove Lane, which is expected to provide capacity for around 81,500 inpatients and 115,000 outpatients every year.
Commenting on the event, Councillor Paul Moore, Sandwell Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, jobs and economy, said:
“Our region’s supply chain is a hotbed of talent and admired across the world. These businesses are capable of providing every component and service required to design, build and maintain a 21st-century healthcare facility.
“The event is a great opportunity for local businesses to showcase their credentials to the very people who will soon be looking to procure healthcare-related products and services. We hope that as many of the region’s businesses as possible will sign up to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity to win new business and build strong relationships with Carillion.”
Some of the region’s biggest firms are already signed up to exhibit, including Sandwell-based Metsec, Ash & Lacy, Briggs Amasco, Unistrut, Thomas Dudley Group, Caparo and Hadley Group.
The morning event will include the unveiling of a state-of-the-art 12 workstation training suite kitted out with the latest building information modelling (BIM) software to broaden local firms’ engineering data, digital product design and 3D modelling skills.
Visitors will also get the chance to view the latest additions to the West Midlands Virtual Hospital (WMVH), Sandwell Council’s multi-award winning 3D walkthrough hospital to showcase locally made materials, components and BIM object designs.
‘Meet the preferred bidders day with Carillion’ takes place on Thursday 8 October 2015 at the CAP Centre, Windmill Lane, Smethwick B66 3LX (adjacent to the Midland Metropolitan hospital site) from 8am to 1pm. It is free to attend as a delegate or £100 for an exhibition stand.
