A derelict Tipton industrial site will be brought back to life by Black Country metal recycling company Enablelink.

The future of the site will be very different from its past. It was previously occupied by Ervin Amasteel, a historic American company, originally founded in 1920, which specialises in abrasives and operates globally. The foundry in Tipton was used for manufacturing high carbon steel shot and grit abrasives.

New owner Enablelink is a local business, founded just 15 years ago in Coseley near Dudley. It specialises in metal recycling and plans to redevelop the site on George Henry Road into a major waste management facility.

Proposed building work includes the demolition of some of the existing buildings, and the construction of a brand new centre, to house scrap metal recycling machinery. Once up and running, the new facility will create nearly 100 new jobs.

Sandwell Council’s planning committee approved the plans to bring the abandoned site back into use, saying that Enablelink’s proposals will “create jobs and bring investment into the local area.”
