Plans for a scheme to revamp the Vaughan Trading Estate in Tipton have recently been unveiled. If the proposed overhaul goes ahead it has the potential to create hundreds of jobs in the region.

The Vaughan Trading Estate currently encompasses 800,000 square feet of production, distribution and office accommodation on a site of approximately 45 acres. Situated in the heart of Tipton’s industrial area the estate has excellent transport links and easy access to the Black Country and the rest of the UK via the nearby motorway network.

The proposed £32m refurbishment scheme includes flattening the majority of the existing buildings on the trading estate to make way for 430,000 square feet of high quality manufacturing work space on the land neighbouring the Thomas Dudley Foundry and Cab Automotive Ltd.

The developer, Dudley Unit Trust, believes that the proposed new development would create around 1,500 jobs, with 944 of these being directly on site. Additional employment would be created through supply chain contracts and hopefully established existing firms located on the site would receive a boost in business as well.

The injection of such investment at the trading estate would not only create direct employment by bringing high quality manufacturing into the area it would but also generate spending in the wider economy across the region.

A planning application for the scheme has been submitted by Dudley Unit Trust to Sandwell Council for consideration.
