Work on the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro line is continuing with the demolition of a redundant railway bridge.

Works have begun on the removal of the bridge in Coneygree Road, Tipton and mark another step forward in the project. A new, purpose-built structure will be installed to replace it later in the construction programme. The replacement bridge will meet the needs of a modern light rail network.

Progress on the Metro extension continued through the summer when a similar structure was demolished on the disused South Staffordshire Railway line, in August.

For the demolition to take place Coneygree Road and Victoria Road between the junctions of Peel Street and Tudor Street are closed for six weeks.

People in the area are being encouraged to plan their journeys ahead as there may be localised travel disruption during the works, or where possible consider walking or cycling as an alternative to travelling by car.

The Metro route will bring improved connectivity to the area and the bridge works bring it another step closer to completion.

The Midland Metro Alliance – the organisation planning and constructing the route on behalf of Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), which is part of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) – has been working with Sandwell Council and local residents to keep residents and businesses in the borough informed of the upcoming works.
